Utilization of Metallurgical Slags in Cu-free Friction Material Formulations

The aim of our research was to indicate the suitability metallurgical slags (two blast furnace and one steel slag) as components Cu-free friction materials. base mixture consisted nine including phenolic resin, graphite, tin sulphide, aramid fibers, iron powder, a barite with calcite, vermiculite. To this mixture, particle size below 0.1 mm were added individually in amount 20 wt.%. A alumina wt.% represented reference. Samples for friction-wear tests produced form pins by hot press molding. prepared tested using pin-on-disc tester drag mode at pressure 1 MPa constant sliding speed 1.51 m/s 90 min. samples exhibited slightly lower values steady-state coefficient compared reference composite alumina, same time wear emissions. concentration reduced slowly cooled slag. results obtained indicated slag promising component composites.
